Article: Bringing Art Back to the Heart of the Home

Bringing Art Back to the Heart of the Home

When I first started Tracey Cooper Homeware, I never imagined my little sketches — the ones drawn between feeding goats and making tea — would one day become part of people’s kitchens across Britain.

But that’s exactly what I love most about what I do: the idea that art doesn’t have to live in a gallery. It can live with you — on your table, in your hands, right in the heart of your home.

Where It All Began

My studio is really just a sunny corner of our farmhouse here in Warwickshire. The view changes daily — sheep in the field, chickens wandering where they shouldn’t, and the light shifting across the hills. That constant rhythm of rural life inspires everything I create.

Each design begins as a drawing — sometimes a hare darting across the lane, sometimes the quiet buzz of bees on the lavender outside my window. I sketch, paint, and then transform those moments into homeware that feels both beautiful and useful.

I don’t believe art should be precious or untouchable. It should belong to our everyday rituals — folded on the counter beside a loaf of fresh bread, hung over the oven, or gifted to someone special.

Why I Make Everything in Britain

There’s a real joy in knowing that every piece I create supports British makers — the printers, the seamstresses, the craftspeople who care as much about detail as I do.

Each collection is printed and sewn here in the UK using high-quality, sustainable materials.

It’s slower, yes, but slower feels right. It feels honest.

When someone chooses a Tracey Cooper tea towel or apron, they’re not just buying something pretty — they’re supporting a story, a community, and a way of making that values quality over quantity.

A Story in Every Stitch

Every illustration has a little piece of my world in it — the countryside, the seasons, the animals I share my days with.
When I see one of my designs hanging in someone’s kitchen or wrapped up as a gift, I feel this deep sense of connection.

That’s what I want people to feel when they bring one of my pieces home — like they’ve invited in a little story, a slice of rural life, something meaningful.

“I think art should make you feel — even if it’s just a smile while drying the dishes.”

Why I Believe in Everyday Beauty

I’ve always believed that home should be filled with things that tell a story — that reflect who we are and what we love.
You don’t need grand interiors or matching sets. Just thoughtful touches, made with care, that bring warmth and life to the ordinary moments.

When I design, I think about the feeling it gives — the calm of a slow morning, the comfort of colour, the joy of knowing something has been made with heart.

Because beauty, when you live with it every day, becomes something more than decoration. It becomes part of you.
